Yemen Moka.

First French press coffee at home. Bought this yesterday from a coffee shop down the street, goes for $15/#. I'm not able to pick up too many distinct flavors during, but it finishes with a dirty, earthy taste with some hints of chocolate to give it that resulting moniker. The chocolate is more noticeable in the nose. Body is medium and very smooth and clean. Finishes a little tannin-y. A great cup of coffee.

Apparently, I didn't take a picture. It looks like coffee. Thanks for stopping by.

Just kidding, I found it.

Eight O'clock Bokar.

I had a few coffee recently that I haven't bothered posting for various reasons. At this point, I've more or less switched to Community Coffee from Amazon which is most excellent. The beans are the freshest I've had aside from Boca Java, though it only really applies to the standard dark roast. The French was a little dry, and the Kenya was very old. I did have a bag of Peet's that was reasonably good but too pricey for regular consumption.

I saw a good Amazon deal for Eight O'clock Bokar which I had never seen before. As always, I am a sucker for limited availability and novelty.

Godiva Breakfast Blend.

I don't remember anything about it except that it wasn't bad. I had a coupon so I figured I'd give it a try. Still rather have DD at that price point though.

Southern Tier Mokah.

A blend between their Javah and Choklat. I actually haven't had their Javah, but from the way this tastes, I'd like to try it. I think ST's Choklat is an impressive brew because thy really nail the chocolate and its sweetness (as opposed to simply using chocolate malt, trying to recreate chocolate flavors, or ultimately yielding something more akin to cocoa), and their typically heavy, sticky body works well there.

I can clearly taste the Choklat here, and then something like coffee. Pretty tasty brew. I'd be interested in trying Javah, Choklat, and Mokah side by side.

Gevalia Kenya.

Sigh.

Gevalia Antigua.

For being so frou frou, Gevalia is not very good. Considering that their traditional roast is likely to be a flagship blend and roast, the poor quality was a dead giveaway for the rest. The Antigua doesn't bring much to the table other than it's name (oh please, don't let the Kenya AA be as bad). Slightly fuller bodies than the traditional, it manages to muster up more of the generic rich roast coffee flavor, the one you think of whenever you see a Folger's commercial and they break the vacuum seal on a can of coffee (seriously, you know advertising is good when you associate a taste proportional to the wholesomeness of a sound), than the traditional roast.

Also, they pronounce their name with a soft 'g'. For them, it's a bad check.

Gevalia Traditional Roast.

I'm not sure if I did a crappy job grinding the beans (which I did), or if it's because it's a medium roast, or if it's just bad, but I didn't care much for it. Ok, so it's not terrible, but for something that sells for more than $14/#, it's pretty lackluster. Dunkin Donuts coffee is half that price and more than twice as good. And that's why America runs on Dunkin.

Tchibo Rich Roast.

Much better balanced than their Exclusive. The body is bit heavier, and the overall taste not so bitter. It has a slight hazelnut aroma. All in all, it is a much smoother coffee than Exclusive, but at the end of the day, I can get much better coffee for the price or cheaper.

Tchibo Exclusive.

Exceptionally smooth, but the roast was not as dark as I would have liked. Consequently, I didn't feel like the body was robust enough to carry the bitterness very well.

Boca Java South Beach Rhythm.

I should have said something a while ago, but I forgot. I didn't forget that I didn't like it nearly as much as the others though.

Boca Java Boca Villa.

Bag 3 of 4, Boca's version of a French roast but much better than your typical French roast. Dark and robust but medium-bodied. Toasty and not as oily, excellent, as expected. I'm going to miss having good coffee around.

Boca Java Boca Sunrise.

Bag 2 of 4 from Boca Java.

This one a medium roast, again makes an excellent case for fresh roasting. Uniformly smooth mouthfeel, clean and mellow taste, South American-sourced beans that add some body to the African beans. Superb morning coffee.

Boca Java Light Up Las Olas.

I picked this up along with 3 others as an introductory offer from Boca Java. Not having had a fresh dark roast in quite awhile, this was quite good. It just goes to show the importance of not only fresh brewing (e.g., coffee shop mid-afternoon) but fresh roasting. I ordered this ground rather than whole bean since my grinder lacks finesse and generally only produces espresso grind or pebbles. If anything deteriorated between Boca Java's grind and my brew, I can't even imagine what a fresh grind would taste like.

Profoundly robust but easy drinking, this is the kind of coffee you should wake up to or enjoy slowly after dinner.

Boca Java seems like a pretty decent company with excellent products and I would have stayed in had I more money to spare at the moment. Perhaps at a later date.

Schlafly Coffee Stout.

This had a cute coffee nose to it, but there's nothing too special about it. It tastes like black, iced coffee, sugar, no cream. Kind of a strange sensation. It is brewed with actual coffee from a local roaster, Kaldi's.
